ALT covers non-mainstream identity formation — punk, goth, emo, and the movements that follow them. Coursework emphasizes resistance to dominant norms and the role of style in subcultural belonging.

Department Overview

ALT moves through history, then into combined seminar-and-studio work, then into a workshop in which students build and defend a sustained personal alt expression — wardrobe, sound, written voice — under rigorous group critique.
