There are 214 stairs between the front gate and the upper lecture halls, and no elevator anyone brags about. The stairs are the academy's most honest instrument: they measure everyone in the same units and have never once been flattered.
Coach Silva publishes cadence tables each term. Nobody is required to read them. Everybody reads them. Improvement is celebrated loudly; decline is met with a scheduled conversation and a hydration plan.
The stairs are the one syllabus nobody skims.
Visitors sometimes ask why the campus was built on a hill. The honest answer is that it wasn't — the hill was simply never apologized for, and by year two neither are the students.
