On the first Friday of October, four pennants go up over the courtyard and the campus reorganizes itself with the speed of a fire drill. Vastoria claims the stairs. Sartoria claims the light. Gracilia claims the dining hall, which was never contested. Magna claims the rest.
The competition runs all year — field days, service challenges, lift sessions, the sock line review — scored on a points system the house desk describes as transparent and everyone else describes as folklore.
House spirit is measurable, but only barely.
What the season actually produces is belonging with a schedule. The banners come down in June. The allegiances, inconveniently for the graduating class, do not.
