Forma Audax. Visio Culta. Femori Terminus Nullus. Department FEM

Department / Foundational

Foundational Embodiment and Form

The FEM department is the academy's first language. Every undergraduate begins here with stance, gait, lower-body mechanics, and the academy's discipline of presence — the underlying training that the rest of the catalog assumes.

FEM studio critique with adult students studying garments, sketches, and movement notes.

Department Overview

FEM treats presence as a discipline. Students develop a working vocabulary for posture, gait, and lower-body mechanics, and produce sustained observation work — posture journals, house movement studies, uniform observation — under faculty supervision.
