The phrase began as a gym joke and was adopted as policy with unusual speed, even by academy standards. Leg day, every day: not a workout schedule but a stance toward effort — something is always being trained, so train it properly.
The corollary is that recovery is scheduled with equal seriousness. The terrace exists for this. Snacks, iced coffee, borrowed notes, and the specific silence of people who climbed the same stairs you did.
Recovery is not the absence of effort. It is effort, administered.
The ethic transfers. Students who learn to respect a rest day stop pulling all-nighters, which the faculty consider the single most useful thing the athletics department has ever taught.
